The idea behind this app is very simple. I want to easily record what I am eating on a daily basis, and measure these against targets I can set myself. Basically we break foods into 3 categories; Good Fats, Proteins and Fiber. Next we define the portion sizes of 1 serving. Everything is measured in servings. Its really easy to figure out how much in a serving because we use easy to visualize objects like a pack of cards.
So for example it’s suggested to eat 5 servings of Good Fats; 5 servings of Protein and 10 servings of Fiber. Set this as your goals and just begin recording after each meal or at the end of each day (um before midnight please).
Recording is easy just go into a category like protein and scroll to the food you have consumed, then select the number of servings and click ADD. The app will keep track of the number of servings, the number of grams and the goals.
Another simple way to add a food is to use the search, just type in the food and if it’s in our database you can easily add the number of servings.
Other places to look around are the graphs and report which shows 30 days of your consumption against targets.
Also take a look at Multivitamins which tracks your intake of vitamins on a daily basis.
Bad Fats and Neutral fats don’t do any tracking but they are good ways to see what foods are in there. We don’t want to be total Debbie downers!
To keep us in good health, our gut relies on maintaining a symbiotic relationship with trillions of microorganisms that live in our digestive tract. When our digestive system is out of whack, serious health problems can manifest, and our intestinal walls can develop microscopic holes, allowing undigested food particles, bacteria, and toxins to seep into the bloodstream. This condition is known as leaky gut syndrome.

In Brain Maker, Dr. Perlmutter explains the potent interplay between intestinal microbes and the brain, describing how the microbiome develops from birth and evolves based on lifestyle choices, how it can become “sick”, and how nurturing gut health through a few easy strategies can alter your brain’s destiny for the better. With simple dietary recommendations and a highly practical program of six steps to improving gut ecology, Brain Maker opens the door to unprecedented brain health potential.
